The valid switches for the EPATTDW.EXE driver in the DOS CONFIG.SYS file are
the following:
/de - disable EPP check
/db - disable EPPBIOS check
/dp - skip PS/2 DMA Arbitration disable
/di - disable interrupt mode (operate in polled mode)
/ni - skip chipset initialization
/ded - Disable EPP Dword transfers
/sf - suppress fast mode detection
/irq:x - force irq 'x' (where x is a number from 1 to 15)
/port:xxx - force port address xxx (where xxx is the parallel port address)
/rx - force read mode x (where x ranges from 0 to 11 - see below)
/wy - force write mode y (where y ranges from 0 to 4 - see below)
Read Modes:
0 - Nibble fast 1 - Nibble normal 2 - Nibble slow
3 - Unidir fast 4 - Unidir normal 5 - Unidir slow
6 - Toshiba fast 7 - Toshiba normal 8 - Bi-dir fast
9 - Bi-dir normal 10 - EPP normal 11 - EPP fast
Write Modes:
0 - SPP fast 1 - SPP normal 2 - SPP slow
3 - EPP normal 4 - EPP fast
As an example, to disable EPP detection with the Colorado 5GB/8GB external
DOS driver, change the entry for the driver in the DOS CONFIG.SYS file
from:
Device=C:\CBD\EPATTDW.EXE
to:
Device=C:\CBD\EPATTDW.EXE /DE
Windows 3.1:
The Shuttle driver support for Windows 3.1 consists of 2 layers: A VxD
component that is part of the EPATTDW.EXE file (loaded with a DEV= line in
the [386Enh] section of the Windows 3.1x SYSTEM.INI file) and a WINASPI.DLL
file loaded dynamically by Windows applications at runtime.
When installing the VxD in the SYSTEM.INI file, it is recommended to create
a [EPATTD] section in that file. This section of the SYSTEM.INI file is
used to modify the behavior of the Windows 3.1x device driver for the
Colorado 5GB/8GB external drive. Valid entries are as follows (the words to
the left of the "=" are case sensitive):
DisableInt=On|Off - Disable interrupt mode (run with polling)
DisableEpp=True|False - Disable EPP detection
DisableFast=On|Off - Disable fast EPP detection
PortBase=xxx - hexadecimal i/o port address of the parallel port
Irq=x - decimal Irq number of the parallel port
ReadMode=x - force read mode x (x ranges from 0 to B - see below)
WriteMode=y - force write mode y (y ranges from 0 to 4 - see below)
Read Modes:
0 - Nibble fast 1 - Nibble normal 2 - Nibble slow
3 - Unidir fast 4 - Unidir normal 5 - Unidir slow
6 - Toshiba fast 7 - Toshiba normal 8 - Bi-dir fast
9 - Bi-dir normal A - EPP normal B - EPP fast
Write Modes:
0 - SPP fast 1 - SPP normal 2 - SPP slow
3 - EPP normal 4 - EPP fast
The most frequent Windows 3.1x problems seen so far include:
1) On some systems, Windows 3.1 (not 3.11 or Windows for Workgroups) hangs
during startup if the Colorado 5GB/8GB external's driver (EPATTDW.EXE) is
loaded in the CONFIG.SYS file. The workaround is to add the /di switch to
the EPATTDW.EXE line in the CONFIG.SYS file to disable interrupt mode.
2) Windows 3.1 (not 3.11 or Windows for Workgroups) loses mouse access if
CBW is configured to work with the Colorado 5GB/8GB external. The
workaround is to add the line "DisableEpp=True" to the [EPATTD] section of
the Windows SYSTEM.INI file.
